The Unity of Architectural studies, perceived as the synthesis of architectural education at all scales of space and levels of design, as well as in all the spectrum of design-redesign, is the principle which defines the breadth of studies in the School of Architecture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. According to this principle, these studies cover the areas of architectural and urban design, conservation and restoration, landscape design, and urban and regional planning.
The Unity of Architectural Studies demands the development of the education offered to an extended spectrum of art, technology and science. In order for this demand to be fulfilled, theory and design must be interrelated and the development of critical and inquisitive ways of thinking must be pursued. With this condition in mind, the Unity of Theory and Design is the principle of the Programme.
The Educational Freedom, as dual liberty; that of teaching and that of studies, is the fundamental principle of the Programme. The Freedom of Studies, as a particular principle which is addressed to students’ body, complements the statutorily consolidated Freedom of Teaching. This complementarity is meant through mutual respect.
